Kurt Cobain
Videos, pictures, lyrics, discography, & more...
Artist Mini Bio:
Kurt Cobain was an American musician who served as lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the highly popular alternative rock/grunge band Nirvana.
With the release of Nirvana’s second album Nevermind in 1991, Cobain and Nirvana were propelled into the mainstream. The albums lead single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was a huge success.
Because of their unique style and popularity many even believe that Nirvana created the subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. During Nirvana’s growing popularity other Seattle grunge bands including Pear Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and others also gained popularity. Because of this alternative rock became a dominate genre on not only radio but music television across the United States during early and middle 1990s.
In media Cobain was often referred to as the spokesman of the so called Generation X. This actually bothered Cobain for he felt the band’s message and vision was misinterpreted by the public. In response to this they challenged their audience with the release of their third album titled In Utero in 1993.
Unfortunately Cobain struggled with drug addiction during the later years of his life along with pressure from media regarding his personal life and wife Courtney Love. On April 8, 1994 he was found dead at his Seattle home from a self-inflicted shotgun blast to the head.
